International Standard

A category of dances in International Style ballroom competitions. Sometimes in the context of competitions it is called Ballroom or International Ballroom, confusing as it might be. (In England, the term “Modern” is often used, which should not be confused with modern dance that derives from ballet technique) It includes waltz (formerly called “slow waltz”), tango, foxtrot, quickstep, and Viennese waltz. This category loosely corresponds to the Smooth category of American Style ballroom (waltz, tango, foxtrot, Viennese waltz).
