Outside Partner position occurs when the moving foot of the forward travelling partner moves on a track outside of their partner’s standing foot, rather than on a track aimed between their partner’s feet.
Dependent on the offset of the hold, this generally applies to a forward step with the right foot (right outside partner) or with the left foot (left outside partner). Steps into outside partner position are also required to be in contra body movement position (CBMP), and are often preceded by a step with a strong side lead (e.g. Left side positive for Right Outside Partner position).
The term “inline” may be used to clarify that an outside partner position is not to be executed.
